The Biggirlshoes Founder Story

Biggirlshoes was born from personal experience — and a real need.

My name is Danielle Lake. I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, in the 1980s. From a young age, I stood out — not just for my height (5 feet 8 inches), but also for my shoe size. At just 13, I was already wearing EU size 41 shoes, and today, I wear EU size 43 — a size that most shops still don’t cater to.

In 2010, I moved to the United Arab Emirates with hopes of new opportunities and a fresh start. But when it came to shoes, I hit a wall. Dubai’s shops rarely went beyond EU size 41 — and if they did, the choices were disappointing: unattractive styles, outdated designs, or worse, men’s sneakers labelled “unisex.”

Shopping became a frustrating, exhausting experience. I couldn’t find heels for weddings, sandals for the beach, or even trainers that felt feminine. Every occasion felt like a compromise.

That’s when I realised: I wasn’t the problem. The industry was.

So I founded Biggirlshoes — a footwear brand for women, teens, and tweens who wear UK sizes 9 – 13 (EU 43 and beyond). A brand built for those who’ve ever felt left out or overlooked in the world of fashion because of their shoe size.

At Biggirlshoes, we believe big feet are beautiful, powerful, and worthy of style, comfort, and confidence — just like every woman who wears them.

This isn’t just about shoes. It’s about visibility. It’s about choice. It’s about walking tall — literally and figuratively.

Welcome to Biggirlshoes.
